Timber Design Awards

Kimi Ora School

The Kimi Ora project is a new special needs base school that has a 5 Green Star NZ Education 2009 Design rating.

The 1100m² building is a series of rectangular forms arranged around a central courtyard located on a 5300m² extensively landscaped site.

Timber plays an important role in the construction, finishing and site works in creating a warm and inviting facility that supports the life skill development of the students.Pine and cedar cladding break up the exterior building form. Interior spaces feature the extensive use of clear coated pine and keruing plywood as well as the exposed glulam post and beam structure in the circulation spaces.

The specification of 90% all timber to be FSC was key in the project achieving its Greenstar Design rating. The completed buildings are being assessed for a Greenstar Build rating and are expected to achieve the same level of certification.
