Project Description:
The house is a weekend retreat from central Wellington.
The site is secluded with an established small lake and mature trees. The surrounding rolling old dune hills rise around the site providing shelter and a sense of enclosure. Keen gardeners, the clients had established a small orchard and impressive vegetable garden prior to commissioning the design of the new house.
The brief called for living spaces to engage with the new orchard, the lake, afternoon sun and provide views to the lower garden.
The new house was to accommodate a range of living situations, including short staying guests and family, a workshop and storage, flexible home office, and to have good light and space for the enjoyment of art and music.
