Project Description:
The owners who previously lived in Japan wished to create a home that would suit modern day living and also include an influence of Japanese architectural aesthetic.
The exterior comprises Cedar cladding plus natural stone and plaster, applied in a layered affect to complement the dramatic surrounding landscape.
The house includes a high use of timber and timber veneers in every room that is highly detailed. Special features include uniquely detailed timber doors, specialist timber fit-out to create a Japanese Tatami and Ofuro and a timber freeze that incorporates 3500 vertical timber battens.
Use of natural timbers for this project was considered fundamental in achieving the aspirations and objectives for the project. The timber design and execution is contemporary in nature but complements both traditional and modern Japanese aesthetic.
The timber species used comprises Western Red Cedar, Sydney Blue Gum and Southland Silver Beach, applied in a variety of applications.
