In this part of the world US institutional investors play a major role in the ownership or management of both countries plantation forests. US based Timber Investment Management Organisation’s and Real Estate Investment Trust’s have over 700,000 ha of plantation forest in New Zealand with another 400,000 plus ha owned/managed in Australia. In this and next week’s issue we highlight some investment and other criteria that are being used by TIMO’s as they assess forestry as an investment “down under”.
