Ship Creek shelter

The small Tauparikaka Creek located 15 km north of Haast acquired the name Ship Creek after part of a ship was washed up on the beach. A fascinating coastal path known as the Swamp Forest Walk features an area of kahikatea swamp forest that follows the slow-flowing water. A timber boardwalk allows visitors access across the swamp and provides easy observation of plants and wildlife. Deep in the swamp forest are views of New Zealand’s tallest tree, the kahikatea.
