Salvation Army Citadel

Warren and Mahoney Architects

Semi circular in plan, the structure defines the space with a ring of concrete columns each supporting a timber truss tied back to the perimeter walls.

Salvation Army Citadel

The trusses are formed from paired sawn timber top and bottom chords connected with vertical timber struts. Triangulation of the trusses is achieved by diagonal steel tension only struts. Steel bolt connections are made between the paired chords at regular intervals along their length. A plywood timber ceiling conceals all other roof structure and forms a roof diaphragm, making the trusses the key feature of the lofty space.
