Set at the foot of a south-facing tree-clad bank, the house has an elemental form.
Weathered cedar board-and-batten cladding makes a natural connection to the environment and provides protection from the weather and street while echoing the colour of surrounding manuka tree trunks. The mid-section of the house has an indoor–outdoor dining space, with cedar cladding that blurs the boundaries between interior and exterior. Along the north elevation, large glazed sliding doors open onto timber decks that reach into the bush.
