Metzler timber warehouse

Spanning 30 m, the beams provide the required strength to support the roof of the warehouse as well as large amounts of snow during winter months.

The shape of the elements expresses the unique strength that the beams have. Both the bottom and top flange of the beams provide the majority of the strength. The top flange of each beam was constructed using solid timber, while bonded timber panels are used on the bottom flange. The wood boarding used to fill the beams allows loads to be transferred between both flanges. Lateral movement of the beams is prevented by steel cables that cross between the each element.
