The new extension occupies a narrow courtyard at the rear of the group of turn-of-the-century buildings that house the faculty. The facilities are compactly arranged around a tall circulation space used for public functions and provide a view of student life. The most dramatic elements of the new building are a suite of lecture theatres located inside a pair of organic volumes. Clad in zinc, the geometry of the lecture theatres was calculated by computer modelling. A glue-laminated timber structure exposed on the interior is used to form the volume shapes, which are lined internally with pine boarding.
