RMJM Hong Kong
The impressive roof structure covering this swimming pool consists of a 50 metre span octagonal space truss.
The large depth of the truss over the central area allows light to penetrate the space highlighting the natural warmth and beauty of the wood. The glue-laminated timber structure was designed to resist typhoon wind loads and heavy live loads while providing a one hour fire resistance rating. All glue-laminated timber truss members were manufactured in New Zealand before being shipped to site in Hong Kong. The use of timber imbues the massive structure with a lightness and elegance that would not be possible with other material.
