Dry Hills house

Architecture Workshop

The house is integrated with the landscape through the long, gabled façade clad with a faded cedar rainscreen.

Dry Hills house

Internal, 150 mm thick, concrete block walls carry the roof. The rainscreen outer shell protects the inner layer from UV and the heating effects of strong sunlight, and forms a layer of calm air around the house that assists with insulation. Sliding doors, with cedar shutters, fit in the cavity between the heavy and lighter rainscreen layers. The 400 mm overall wall thickness adds a pleasing perception of protection to the house.
