Country House at Brick Bay

Noel Lane Architects

Designed by Noel Lane, this house enjoys its predominantly rural setting. The city was left behind and the openness of the local farmland and nearby coastline were embraced by the architect and client in the design of the house.

Country House at Brick Bay

The house is constructed mainly from wood, of which many elements are made from recycled wood found nearby. The various shades and textures offered by the different species and ages of the wood, create an elaborate interior where the house appears as a collection of pieces overlooked by a dominant brick tower that anchors the house to the site. Throughout the house, wood performs in various unique ways. Internal walls have been left unlined and are used to house pieces of artwork. Large timber trusses support the roof and a walkway, while skylights allow light to flood the interior adding a natural glow to the walls and floor.
