Hegger Hegger Schleiff
Built on a former colliery site, the building contains meeting, seminar and exhibition spaces arranged in a modular manner to allow flexible usage.
The structure consists of a series of innovative timber lamellar barrel vaults arranged to form a long narrow building. The vaults were prefabricated for ease of construction. Timber from renewable sources was chosen because of its low embodied energy, with recycled cellulose used for insulation. The building features sustainable heating and cooling systems along with rainwater collection from the roof. This type of roof system can be designed and built in New Zealand.
