Brussels Exhibition Centre Walkway

Originally built in 1935, the building today is Belgium’s busiest and most recognised exhibition centre. Since opening, numerous extensions have been made to the building, and its form has changed considerably over the years.

Samyn and Partners were commissioned to build a walkway over a nearby motorway to reconnect a large car park to the exhibition centre. The walkway uses wood elements to produce an extremely strong yet largely transparent structure to link the car park with the trade fair complex (a large space that forms part of the exhibition centre). Wood elements enclose the walkway on both sides and are positioned to form two truss systems. The attractive nature of the trusses adds to the walkway’s aesthetic merit.
