The Gladehouse is a late 50’s residential dwelling set in a bush glade in the suburb of Remuera. With a low pitched gabled roof, raking ceilings and exposed rafters, the client’s loved the style of the original house, and were committed to ‘recycling’ the building instead of starting anew.
The architect had originally designed the ships’ hulls for the foyer in steel, but New Zealand-based McIntosh Timber Laminates proved that a laminated radiata pine solution (glulam) would be more cost effective than using steel.
